We are named after a visionary leader, mother, and career teacher who’s dream was to eradicate illiteracy and poverty in rural Kenyan communities.
Miriam Sei received a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Education at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. She was a teacher by profession for 29 years, with majority of her expertise being in teaching education to college students. Upon retirement, she relocated to the rural highlands of Kenya and became a full time farmer.
Having been raised in rural Kenya, Miriam Sei understood the need to provide an excellent environment for impoverished children to learn. In 2009, she donated her own land, began building a school, and in 2010 enrolled the inaugural class at Sunsei Educational Center. Upon her passing away in 2014, the mantle was handed over to her four children.
